Mike Heckmann helps clients navigate complex regulatory schemes, advises clients on maximizing advantages and minimizing risks for potential litigation, and engages in dispositive trial and appellate advocacy once litigation begins.
Mike has drafted briefs and dispositive motions in the United States Supreme Court and state and federal courts across the country. He has also advised various companies on compliance, enforcement risks, and potential challenges to a range of state ESG (environmental, social, and governance) laws.
Mike maintains an active pro bono practice representing clients who cannot afford counsel in the federal courts of appeals.
Before joining Jones Day in 2023, Mike served as a law clerk to Justice Amy Coney Barrett, both at the Supreme Court of the United States and at the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit prior to her elevation. Mike also clerked for Judge Stanley Marcus at the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
