Joe Sconyers has helped global financial institutions identify and resolve complex and evolving legal risk for more than 15 years. Joe's practice emphasizes providing strategic counseling to clients concerning disputes and regulatory inquiries involving banking and other commercial and consumer financial services businesses.
Joe has extensive experience with structured finance transactions backed by various consumer and commercial assets. His work in this area involves risk-mitigation counseling with respect to thousands of complex financings, responding to regulatory inquiries, and representing banks in affirmative and defensive litigation in federal and state courts.
Joe also regularly advises major financial institutions on cutting-edge litigation and risk issues in connection with emerging environmental, social, and governance (ESG)-related laws and regulations. He also counsels clients concerning potential legal exposure and financial risks in connection with climate transition-related matters.
Beyond his work with financial institutions, Joe has advised boards of directors, board committees, and corporate directors and officers in shareholder disputes and in internal and regulatory investigations. He also has represented global accounting firms in connection with securities-related regulatory inquiries and client disputes. Joe has successfully represented clients seeking to enjoin misappropriation of trade secrets and to enforce nondisclosure and noncompetition agreements through expedited litigation.
Joe has an active pro bono practice focused on representing children and families in immigration removal proceedings, including through the Firm's Border Project, and advocating for military veterans through the Firm's VetLex initiative.
