Jones Day partner Walter Davis joins The Carter Center Board of Councilors

Walt Davis, a partner in the Firm's Securities Litigation & SEC Enforcement Practice in the Atlanta Office, was recently invited to join the Board of Councilors of The Carter Center. The Board of Councilors is a leadership advisory group that promotes understanding of The Carter Center and its activities among opinion leaders and the broader community. Since its founding in 1987, the Board of Councilors has been led by some of Atlanta's most distinguished civic leaders.

Mr. Davis is one of the most highly-regarded business lawyers in the Southeast. He focuses his practice on shareholder class and derivative actions, partnership and fiduciary disputes, and other complex, high exposure matters, along with related board and governmental investigations. He is a trusted boardroom and C-suite advisor to officers and directors and special committees, with an emphasis on activism, ESG, and other governance-related issues. In 2019, Mr. Davis was appointed by Georgia Governor Brian P. Kemp to lead the creation of the Georgia State-wide Business Court and serve as its first judge. He rejoined the Firm in September 2022.  

Mr. Davis also has a strong commitment to public service and deep ties in the Atlanta legal and business communities. He is a past co-chair of the Securities and Corporate Litigation Section of the Atlanta Bar, a Master in the Clarke-Carley Inn of Court, and serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Georgia School of Law, where he lectures on securities and governance issues. He is also a member of the Rotary Club of Atlanta, a member of the Board of the Atlanta Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, and a past president of the Board of the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation. Mr. Davis is a graduate of both Leadership Georgia and Leadership Atlanta, respectively.
