Sony Pictures obtains insurance coverage for losses arising from liabilities arising from 2014 cyberattack

Jones Day represented Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. in obtaining insurance coverage for the 2014 cyberattack by North Korean hackers, from 2015 to 2019. This unprecedented attack resulted in destruction of data and disruption of network systems. The Jones Day team advised the client on insurance coverage and pursued claims under three lines of coverage. The team achieved significant recoveries from nine different insurers to reimburse the client for breach response costs, business interruption losses, and class action litigation costs.
