Client charged with two counts of federal conspiracy is fully acquitted
Client(s) Confidential client
Jones Day represented an individual facing federal racketeering and conspiracy charges in connection with the individual's time working as a salesperson at a large financial institution. The Department of Justice alleged that Jones Day's client, along with two former co-workers, was a member of a conspiracy and racketeering enterprise whose goals included spoofing, commodities fraud, and price manipulation. The three defendants proceeded to trial in the Northern District of Illinois in July 2022. After three weeks of testimony and a lengthy presentation by the Department of Justice, Jones Day's closing argument pointed out significant deficiencies in the Government's case. At the conclusion of trial and after eight days of deliberations, the jury ultimately found Jones Day's client not guilty of all charges.
