Paul Melot de Beauregard advises clients on the entire spectrum of national and international labor and employment law, focusing on restructurings, corporate compliance, and litigation as well as negotiations with trade unions and works councils. He also advises on benefits and service agreements with board members, managing directors, and senior executives and on operational pensions and outsourcing. His experience covers leading international groups and companies in a range of industries.

In addition, Paul regularly counsels companies on obligations and the liability of board members and managing directors, including directors and officers liability insurance (D&O), and on board affairs and compliance with the legal framework at the company and group levels. He has extensive experience with separation and liability processes in and out of court; in implementing compensation and benefits systems; in litigation, arbitration, and negotiations involving all kinds of labor and employment issues; in supporting human resources departments in matters with employment agencies and in tax and social security issues; and advising on secondments and international human resources projects including groupwide transfer of personal data and observance of international labor standards/human rights in the supply chain and other ESG (environmental, social, and governance) matters.

Paul is a board member of pro bono Deutschland e.V., an organization supported by law firms advocating for the establishment and promotion of pro bono work in Germany. He is also an honorary professor at the faculty of law at FernUniversität Hagen and serves on the board of the leading German law and economy journal Der Betrieb. He regularly speaks and lectures in Germany and abroad on topics regarding human resources, corporate compliance, and labor law.

  • Spark Networks obtains chapter 15 recognition of first-ever cross-border restructuring under German StaRUGJones Day represented Spark Networks SE in the first-ever cross-border restructuring under the recently enacted German restructuring law ("StaRUG") and chapter 15 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code involving over $100 million of funded debt issued by a U.S.-based credit fund and guaranteed by other German and U.S. entities.
  • Diebold Nixdorf successfully restructures over $2.7 billion in funded debt and completes the first-ever dual proceeding under the U.S. bankruptcy code and Dutch restructuring law in 71 daysIn the first-ever cross border restructuring involving dual main proceedings under chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code and a scheme of arrangement (the "Dutch Scheme") under the Dutch Act on Confirmation of Extrajudicial Plans (Wet Homologatie Onderhands Akkoord ("WHOA")), and the first-ever chapter 15 recognition of Dutch Scheme proceedings and a sanctioned WHOA reorganization plan (the "WHOA Plan"), Jones Day represented Diebold Nixdorf, Incorporated ("Diebold") and certain of its U.S. and Canadian subsidiaries (the "Debtors") in connection with (i) the prepackaged chapter 11 cases of In re Diebold Holding Company, LLC, et al., (Case No. 23-90602-DRJ) commenced on June 1, 2023, in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas (the "Bankruptcy Court"); (ii) the Dutch Scheme, commenced on June 1, 2023 by Diebold Nixdorf Dutch Holding B.V.
