John MacGarty is a private equity lawyer with more than 18 years of experience advising private equity clients across the full spectrum of their capital raising and secondaries transactional requirements.

Given the increasingly complexity of the capital raising environment and the growth of the secondaries market, John's broad experience across the market allows him to advise clients creatively and commercially in the capital raising environment, helping them to navigate their most strategic transactions efficiently and effectively.

John's extensive fund formation experience has been focused on the private equity, real estate, credit, infrastructure, and venture capital sectors. In addition to working closely with clients on their fund formations, co-investment platforms, continuation funds, and other capital raising platforms, John advises clients on their carried interest and co-investment structuring, management arrangements, and manager M&A transactions.

John works closely with leading secondaries firms and general partners (GPs) on the full range of secondaries transactions, with a particular focus on fund portfolio transactions, GP-led secondaries, and co-investment transactions.
