Grëtel Cannon's practice focuses on high-value, complex construction and engineering disputes, with an emphasis on international arbitration and cross-border dispute resolution.
Prior to joining Jones Day's Melbourne Office, Grëtel worked in Jones Day's Singapore Office. Grëtel's experience includes several major international arbitrations under ICC (International Chamber of Commerce), SIAC (Singapore International Arbitration Centre), HKIAC (Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre), and DIFC-LCIA (Dubai International Arbitration Centre–London Court of International Arbitration) Rules of Arbitration, including representing a construction joint venture in a multimillion dollar dispute with its consortium member regarding a power plant project in the Middle East. Through this matter, Grëtel gained in-depth experience in large-scale virtual hearings.
Grëtel has also assisted in a multibillion dollar arbitration in relation to a gas pipeline in the Middle East, in proceedings challenging an arbitral award in Singapore and Australia, and local counsel in advising a defrauded technology company in civil proceedings.
Grëtel's recent experience includes acting for a joint venture for a mining project in NSW Supreme Court litigation as well as advising an overseas contractor in relation to disputes arising from a solar farm project in Australia. In addition, she has been seconded to the Melbourne headquarters of an international engineering and construction company where she assisted with procurement and construction negotiations in the infrastructure sector and advised on various compliance issues.
Grëtel is also an active contributor to Jones Day's Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force.
