Liberty Media cleared by DOJ to acquire DirecTV from NewsCorp

Client(s) Liberty Media Group

Jones Day represented Liberty Media Group in connection with the antitrust aspects of its acquisition of DirecTV from NewsCorp, in return (in part) for Liberty’s NewsCorp stock that had been acquired in earlier transactions. The DirecTV transaction was complicated by the fact that Liberty Global owned a small cable system in Puerto Rico, where DirecTV also does business, however the Department of Justice (DOJ) ultimately closed its investigation without challenge.
