Emergency order of protection
Client(s) MFA
On March 1, 2013, Jones Day obtained a permanent order of protection for Ms. X to protect her against violence from her live-in boyfriend. The team had been representing the client in connection with a VAWA derivative application arising from a different relationship. During the course of the VAWA representation, the client informed the team that she had been assaulted the prior weekend by her live-in boyfriend. The team immediately appeared before the Bronx Family Court and obtained a temporary order of protection that excluded the boyfriend from the residence on the very same day that the client advised them of the assault. The team returned to court four days later to secure a permanent, one-year order of protection for the client. The team received invaluable assistance in the process from the inMotion staff.
