Client receives full social security disability benefits
Client(s) HR
Jones Day Washington, in association with the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless, helped a single man obtain social security disability benefits in a hearing before the Social Security Administration’s Office of Disability Adjudication and Review. Prior to Jones Day becoming involved, the Social Security Administration had denied the client’s initial application for benefits and his request for reconsideration. The client, who suffers from a number of severe medical impairments, appealed these decisions and requested a hearing in February 2015. While waiting for a hearing to be scheduled, Laura Koman conducted an investigation into the merits of the client’s medical claims, supplemented the administrative record with new medical records and affidavits, and submitted a brief on the client’s behalf. In February 2017, nearly three years since the client initially filed for disability benefits, Laura represented the client at his hearing. At the hearing, the client answered questions about his medical impairments and the administrative law judge issued a fully favorable decision awarding him disability benefits. The client will begin receiving benefits as soon as the decision is processed.
