David Nahmias elected to The American Law Institute
David Nahmias has been elected to The American Law Institute (ALI), one of the leading independent organizations in the United States dedicated to producing scholarly work to clarify, modernize, and otherwise improve the law. ALI drafts, discusses, revises, and publishes Restatements of the Law, Model Codes, and Principles of Law that are influential in the courts and legislatures, as well as in legal scholarship and education.
Mr. Nahmias is a partner in the Atlanta Office, where he leads the Investigations & White Collar Defense team, while also working with the Firm's Issues & Appeals Practice. Prior to joining Jones Day in 2023, he served as Chief Justice of the Georgia Supreme Court.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Nahmias spent nearly 15 years with the U.S. Department of Justice. In 2004, he was unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia—the chief federal law enforcement official for metropolitan Atlanta and more than six million residents—where he supervised significant public corruption and corporate, health care, and other fraud cases. After the 9/11 terrorist attacks, he served as Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General and then Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the Criminal Division at Main Justice, overseeing the Counterterrorism, Fraud, and Appellate Sections.
In 2023, Mr. Nahmias received the Atlanta Bar Association Logan E. Bleckley Award for Distinguished Judicial Service and the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) Southeast Lifetime Achievement Award.
