Michiel Huizinga and Pierre-Olivier Mahieu join Jones Day as partners in Corporate Practice
Dr. Michiel Huizinga and Pierre-Olivier Mahieu have joined Jones Day as partners in the Corporate Practice. Dr. Huizinga is based in the Frankfurt Office and Mr. Mahieu is based in the Brussels Office.
Jones Day's global Corporate Practice encompasses M&A and Private Equity. In the last five years, the Firm has advised clients on more than 3,000 M&A transactions collectively valued at $1.5 trillion, and many of the world's leading private equity funds are counseled by Jones Day in the full range of corporate transactions.

Dr. Huizinga's practice focuses on the representation of private equity companies in complex cross-border transactions. He also regularly advises infrastructure funds and companies on M&A transactions. Dr. Huizinga recently advised Brookfield Private Equity, Charterhouse Capital, Centerbridge Partners, and Advent International on various M&A projects.

Pierre-Olivier Mahieu
Mr. Mahieu has 30 years of experience advising clients in mergers and acquisitions, private equity, and equity capital market transactions. He has worked on a number of significant deals in the banking, fintech, life insurance, retail, aerospace, and energy industries, and he has been recognized by Chambers & Partners and Legal 500 for his excellence in negotiating and closing important corporate transactions. Mr. Mahieu counsels both local and international clients on Belgian, European, and cross-border transactions.
Mr. Mahieu recently advised a European financial institution in an acquisition of two payment solutions providers from a number of EU banks, the acquisition of a €3.3 billion life insurance portfolio by a Belgian insurance company, the sale of a motorcycle parts distributor to a U.S.-based engineering products company, and a capital raise of €40 million for a Belgian industrial machine health company.

Mr. Mahieu earned an undergraduate degree from Facultés Universitaires Saint-Louis, a law degree from Université Catholique de Louvain, and an LLM degree from the University of Virginia. He is fluent in French, Dutch, English, and Spanish, and has a basic knowledge of Mandarin.
