American Steamship negotiates with American Maritime Officers

Jones Day represents American Steamship Company ("ASC"), a subsidiary of GATX Corporation, in connection with on-going collective bargaining for a successor collective bargaining agreement with the American Maritime Officers ("AMO"). On August 1, 2011, the collective bargaining agreement between the parties expired, and the AMO commenced a strike and began picketing. The Firm represented ASC in connection with strike contingency planning, strike response strategy, and unfair labor practice litigation. We ultimately succeeded in thwarting the strike in four days and obtaining an agreement to continue the collective bargaining agreement through the end of the shipping season without further disruption.
