Domestic violence survivor prevails in bench trial and obtains restraining order against abusive ex-boyfriend

After a five-day bench trial before the Hon. Charles Clay (LASC), Jones Day secured a five-year domestic violence restraining order against the ex-boyfriend of a pro bono client referred from the Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice, a nonprofit with a focus on domestic violence. The five-year restraining order was the maximum allowable under the law, and the court also awarded sole physical and legal custody to the client, and a favorable visitation schedule. The respondent was also ordered to undertake a 52-week batterer's intervention program.
