U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell files amicus brief in Free-Speech case

Jones Day filed an amicus brief in the U.S. Supreme Court, on behalf of U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell, in support of appellees in an important free-speech case. The amicus brief argues that a three-judge district court panel was correct in holding that a provision of the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002, which places a $250,000 cap on candidate loans that campaign committees may repay using funds raised after election day, is unconstitutional. In addition, the brief maintains that the provision should not be severed from the statute and that, instead, the Supreme Court should strike down the entire Act.
