Sachin Patel focuses his practice on intellectual property litigation and appeals, with an emphasis on patent litigation in district courts across the country and post-grant proceedings with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). His experience spans a variety of technologies ranging from biotechnology to mechanical devices. Prior to rejoining Jones Day in 2024, Sachin clerked for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Sachin has experience in all stages of litigation, ranging from the pleadings to appeal. He has drafted briefings for a variety of issues and argued motions in federal court and before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). Sachin has managed discovery, prepared fact and expert witnesses for deposition, and taken and assisted with depositions. As part of multiple trial teams, Sachin has worked closely with expert and lay witnesses to prepare witness outlines and demonstratives.

Sachin maintains an active pro bono practice, representing parties in Section 1983 litigation and U.S. veterans seeking various forms of relief at the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.

While in law school, Sachin served as an intellectual property research assistant to Professor Mark D. Janis. Prior to law school, he worked as a paralegal for a law firm in Chicago.

Sachin also is an active member of the South Asian Bar Association and the Richard Linn American Inn of Court.

Experience

  • Cohesity disposes of six-patent litigation brought by adverse competitor CommvaultJones Day successfully represented Cohesity Inc. ("Cohesity") and obtained dismissal in a six-patent, competitor suit filed by Commvault Systems in April 21, 2020.
