Jones Day adds 10 U.S. Supreme Court clerks from the October 2023 Term
The Firm has announced the addition of 10 former U.S. Supreme Court clerks from the October 2023 Term to the Issues & Appeals Practice as associates. Jones Day has recruited 96 U.S. Supreme Court clerks since the October 2011 Term.
"A Supreme Court clerkship is unmatched in terms of preparing lawyers for appellate and Supreme Court practice; these 10 lawyers come to the Firm battle-tested and ready to serve our clients," said Traci L. Lovitt, leader of the Firm's Issues & Appeals Practice. "They join an already formidable Issues & Appeals Practice and will add to the acumen and tenacity that are the hallmarks of Jones Day lawyers."

The new arrivals, the Justices for whom they clerked, their law schools, prior clerkships, and previous roles are as follows:
- Jasmine Stein Akre clerked for Justice Clarence Thomas and graduated from Yale Law School. Prior to her Supreme Court clerkship, Ms. Akre was an associate at a law firm in Washington, D.C. (2021-2023); and Judicial Clerk for Hon. Amul Thapar, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit (2020-2021).
- Benjamin P. Daus clerked for Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr., and graduated from Yale Law School. Prior to his Supreme Court clerkship, Mr. Daus was a Judicial Clerk for Hon. Amul Thapar, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit (2022-2023); and Hon. Rachel P. Kovner, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York (2021-2022).
- Julia E. Fine clerked for Justice Amy Coney Barrett and graduated from Stanford Law School. Prior to her Supreme Court clerkship, Ms. Fine was an associate at a law firm in Washington, D.C. (2022-2023); Judicial Clerk for Hon. Dabney L. Friedrich, U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia (2021-2022); and Hon. Stephanos Bibas, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit (2020-2021).
- Joshua S. Ha clerked for Justice Samuel A. Alito and graduated from Harvard Law School. Prior to his clerkship, Mr. Ha was an associate at Jones Day (2022-2023); Judicial Clerk for Judge Steven J. Menashi, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit (2021-2022); and Judicial Clerk for Judge Britt C. Grant, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit (2020-2021).
- Thomas Hopson clerked for Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh and graduated from Yale Law School. Prior to his Supreme Court clerkship, Mr. Hopson was an associate at Jones Day (2022-2023); Judicial Clerk for Hon. Dabney L. Friedrich, U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia (2021-2022); and Judicial Clerk for Hon. Gregory G. Katsas, U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit (2020-2021).
- Anthony J. Jeffries clerked for Justice Anthony M. Kennedy and Justice Brett Kavanaugh and graduated from Stanford Law School. - Avery Rasmussen Phillips clerked for Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh and graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law. Prior to her Supreme Court clerkship, Ms. Phillips was a Judicial Clerk for Hon. Dabney L. Friedrich, U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia (2022-2023); and Judicial Clerk for Hon. J. - Isabelle Hanna Sandoval clerked for Justice Neil M. Gorsuch and graduated from Yale Law School.
