Jones Day adds team of leveraged finance and capital markets lawyers in Madrid

A group of four lawyers is joining the Firm's Financial Markets Practice, based in the Madrid Office. The new arrivals include José Luis Pita da Veiga Subirats, who joins as a partner, and Borja Carpintero García-Arias, who joins as of counsel. Also joining as associates are Marina Zarza Santamaria and Nicolás Aragonés Escrivá de Romani.

Mr. Pita da Veiga focuses on advising financial institutions—as well as debt and venture capital funds, sponsors, and issuers—in all types of business financing transactions, including financings for acquisitions, debt restructuring, and refinancing in bankruptcy and pre-bankruptcy situations. He has particular experience working on transactions with a multijurisdictional scope. Mr. Pita  da Veiga earned an LLM degree from the University of Westminster in London, a law degree from Universidad Complutense in Madrid, and a master's degree in Financial Markets from Instituto de Estudios Bursátiles in Madrid.

"José Luis has worked on a number of large financings for acquisitions, assets, infrastructure projects, and real estate transactions across borders throughout the EU, while Borja has been involved in numerous aspects of capital markets transactional and regulatory work," said Jay Tambe, Practice Leader of the Firm's Financial Markets Practice. "Their collective experience is a great complement to our team in Spain and Europe. I am excited to welcome them to Jones Day."

Mr. Carpintero's transactional practice covers international and cross-border transactions, debt issues, securitizations, and structured finance transactions across diverse asset classes and includes specific experience advising financial institutions on repackaging and debt capital markets transactions. He holds an LLM degree from Instituto de Empresa in Madrid and a law degree from Universidad Pontificia Comillas in Madrid.

"José Luis and Borja have built excellent track records in the Spanish business community for their work advising financial institutions on a wide range of complex financings and corporate transactions, and along with Financial Markets partners Javier Lopez Antón and Iván Martín-Barbón here in Madrid, their arrival creates even more depth to serve our clients," said Marta Delgado Echevarría, Partner-in-Charge of the Firm's Madrid Office. "I am delighted this group of talented lawyers has chosen to join Jones Day and welcome them to our team here in Madrid."
