Jim Jones tries cases to juries, judges, and arbitrators. He prosecutes and defends high-stakes commercial actions for industry leaders in sectors from software to steel. His commercial, class action, and multijurisdictional cases have included breach of contract, business tort, accountants' liability, antitrust, environmental, product liability, False Claims Act, fraud, and consumer fraud claims. In these proceedings, Jim has represented energy companies, financial institutions, educational institutions, telecommunications companies, automotive manufacturers and suppliers, smart meter designers, software and service providers, and medical device and pharmaceutical makers.
Jim's commercial litigation docket has included cases for FirstEnergy, IBM, and United States Steel over supply agreement disputes. He has defended former Edison Mission Energy and NRG affiliates in Clean Air Act lawsuits filed by the federal government and various states against the owners and operators of coal-fired power plants. He has defended the operators of coal-fired power plants and wind farms against lawsuits brought by the owners of property near generating facilities. Jim's bankruptcy litigation experience covers prosecuting chapter 11 proceedings to resolve mass tort claims involving the debtor affiliates of Johnson & Johnson and Georgia-Pacific, among others; defending against and prosecuting claims of non-debtors in adversary proceedings; and defending U.S. corporations against the claims of non-U.S. debtors or creditors in chapter 15 proceedings.
The Legal Services Corporation has named him the "Nation's Urban Pro Bono Publico Attorney of the Year" for his work with the homeless. Jim serves on the National Council of The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.
