Melissa Lim Patterson is an experienced complex commercial litigator, particularly in large multidistrict litigations. Melissa represents multinational companies, including in the pharmaceutical industry, on consumer class actions, antitrust merger litigations, and in Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) fraud investigations, as well as in matters related to allegations of bid-rigging, price-fixing, and market allocation. She also has experience defending allegations of antitrust violations premised on the alleged misuse of intellectual property rights or the regulatory approval processes to extend market exclusivity for brand name drugs. In her practice, Melissa also has extensive experience with electronic discovery along with all stages of pretrial litigation.
Melissa is active in pro bono and public service work. Melissa first chaired a jury trial in the Eastern District of Virginia and successfully secured for the client, the victim of human trafficking, a $3 million verdict under the Trafficking Victims Protection Act, against a former employee of the U.S. State Department. Melissa successfully defended the trial verdict on appeal in the Fourth Circuit. She has also provided Continuing Legal Education (CLE) programs on human trafficking issues. Her other pro bono work includes representing several clients before federal and state courts in immigration matters, particularly with respect to seeking Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS), as well as in criminal proceedings in D.C. Superior Court. Melissa is a member of the Washington Office's Recruiting Committee, co-chair of the Washington Office's Diversity Committee, and a member of the Firmwide Diversity, Inclusion, and Advancement Committee.
