Head of the Firm's global Energy Practice, Jeff Schlegel has more than 30 years of experience in leading international and domestic M&A and project development transactions for energy industry participants, particularly in oil and gas, liquefied natural gas (LNG), chemicals/petrochemicals, power, renewables, and energy-related infrastructure.
Jeff's M&A experience includes public and private M&A, joint venture, and project development transactions in the upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas industry, chemicals/petrochemicals, polyolefins and catalysts, LNG, power, renewables and energy transition matters, and other capital intensive industries. His project development experience in these sectors includes structuring, engineering, procurement, construction, operations, and primary commercial arrangements. Jeff also has represented domestic and multinational companies in a variety of public and private transactions, including inbound and outbound investment, and cross-border transactions in a wide range of industries in Europe, Latin America, Asia, Africa, and North America.
Jeff's recent engagements include more than $450 billion of: energy projects, joint ventures, acquisitions, dispositions, and financings; LNG import and export projects and transactions in North America, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia; refining, logistics, and other downstream transactions in the United States and the Asia/Pacific region; midstream transactions and projects around the world; the development of multiple world-scale facilities; and oil field services transactions in the United States, Africa, the Middle East, and Europe.
Jeff is a regular speaker on energy industry trends and issues, and he has been involved in the drafting of model forms of energy industry contracts. Jeff has been recognized by many premier legal publications, including in the 2024 edition of WWL Thought Leaders: Global Elite.
