Michael Legg's practice focuses on class actions, regulatory proceedings, and complex commercial disputes.
Michael has represented ASX 200 and Fortune 500 companies in high-stakes litigation in Australia and the United States. His representations include shareholder, financial product, mass tort, and product liability class actions where he has acted for major banks, an international airline, a multinational chemical corporation, and a global technology company.
He has represented clients in Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC) investigations and proceedings and defended cartel proceedings brought by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).
He has advised institutional investors on participating in shareholder class actions and litigation funding arrangements and has advised on compliance with the Australian Corporations Act, including directors' duties, continuous disclosure, accounting, and auditing requirements.
Michael has written extensively on litigation and dispute resolution, including Case Management and Complex Civil Litigation (2011) and as coauthor of Australian Annotated Class Actions Legislation (2d ed. 2018). He is a member of the Law Council of Australia's Class Actions Committee.
