The China offices offer short-term internships to students at Chinese law schools in Beijing and Shanghai. Interns receive assignments that provide them with a taste of the work handled by international law firms in China.
The Jones Day China offices seek highly-credentialed law students from U.S. J.D. programs to work as summer associates. We require native fluency in both Mandarin and English. Summer associates are given assignments across a range of practice areas that may include everything from cross-border M&A transactions and structured finance to arbitration.
New lawyers attend the New Lawyer Academy, an annual event held in Washington, D.C. Each fall, new lawyers assemble from our more than 40 offices around the world to meet and network with each other and learn what it means to be One Firm Worldwide. BEIJING Coordinator, Business Development & Communications (BD&C)
Summary of Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Coordinator is responsible for supporting the strategic business development efforts of the China offices, including as part of the broader efforts of the Asia region and the global strategy of the Firm. The Coordinator will develop an understanding of the China offices; their unique cultures, strategic direction, practice mix, and primary industries in the local markets. The Coordinator will work closely and collaborate with lawyers in each of the China offices and throughout the Firm as needed, including through client-facing events, civic and charitable sponsorships, tracking of client interactions and client targeting, research and reporting, preparation for client meetings, directory submissions (with support from the Recognitions and Awards team), and other activities that support client relationship expansion. The Coordinator is expected to be both proactive and responsive to requests from global BD&C colleagues and lawyers in supporting these efforts. The Coordinator is expected to perform all job duties with a commitment to providing superior service to clients, producing quality work product and maintaining an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement. Above all, the Coordinator must support the BD&C needs of the Firm in a manner which is consistent with the Firm's visions and values.
Required Qualifications:
- University-level degree.
- One-two years of professional services experience required; law firm experience preferred.
- Fluency in both Mandarin Chinese and English.

The Jones Day International Legal Fellowship ("Fellowship") is designed to identify and support exceptional legal talents in China. The Firm grants these Fellowships every year to outstanding Chinese law students. Since 2001, Jones Day has awarded a total of 255 Fellowships to law students in China. Winners include law students who have outstanding academic records, display original and creative thought, have strong communication skills in English and Chinese, and have shown an exceptional interest and promise in the legal profession.

Since 2001, Jones Day has awarded a total of 248 Fellowships and over 4 million Renminbi of scholarships to those exceptional law students in China.
Who can apply for the Fellowship?
The competition is open to all graduate students and undergraduates third year or above studying law at universities in China. Previous Jones Day International Legal Fellowship winners are not eligible for consideration.
When is the deadline for applying for the Fellowship?
The deadline for applying for the Fellowship is April 27, 2023. Applicants must ensure that their application form be filled and submitted on or before the deadline. Late applications will not be considered.
How are the winners decided?
We focus on identifying outstanding legal talents, not necessarily on the best academic record. Fellowship winners are chosen not only for their outstanding intellect, but also for their character and potential for working at the highest level of legal practice.
What do the Fellowship winners receive?
2023 Fellowship winners will receive a RMB35,000 scholarship, a Jones Day Fellowship certificate and a possible Jones Day internship with our Beijing or Shanghai Office.

The application period for the 2023 Fellowship will begin on April 12, and end on April 27, 2023 To apply, please fill in the Application Form online and submit the information and materials required.
