The Milan Office staffs associate positions with Italian-qualified lawyers who have excellent command of written and spoken English. The Firm gives strong preference to those who have gone on to obtain an LL.M. degree from leading U.S. or U.K. universities.
New lawyers attend the New Lawyer Academy, an annual event held in Washington, DC. Each fall, new lawyers assemble from our more than 40 offices around the world to meet and network with each other and learn what it means to be One Firm Worldwide. Our Firm leaders, partners, and associates teach the new lawyers about Jones Day's culture, history, organization, and achievements and lead substantive and interactive training sessions. Every year, our new lawyers take away from the Academy a sense of great pride and excitement about being part of the Firm.
Pre-Graduation Interns
Each year, the Milan Office generally hires one or two law students in their fourth or fifth year to serve as pre-graduation interns during the school term. Depending on their success as interns, the Firm may subsequently offer them trainee positions. Candidates must be law school students with superior academic records from leading Italian universities.
Our trainee recruiting efforts take place year-round based on the resumes that we receive. We also participate in job fairs at the three main law universities in Milan: the Bocconi University, the Cattolica University, and the Statale University.
The Milan Office assigns all trainees to the Firm's New Lawyers Group. Trainees receive work assignments from across a variety of practices and participate on transnational teams, collaborating with lawyers and interacting with clients around the world. The Firm provides both oral and written assessments of trainee performance.
