Daniel Travers focuses on complex domestic and multijurisdictional disputes and investigations across a number of industry sectors. He has particular experience advising on contentious insolvency and corporate matters, including joint venture disputes. The Legal 500 describes Daniel as a leading "next generation partner" in commercial litigation.
Daniel's recent experience includes advising HRH Prince Abdullah Bin Mosa'ad on his successful claim to take full control of the English Premier League team Sheffield United Football Club after a hotly contested shareholder dispute.
Daniel is also currently acting for the liquidators of the BHS Group of companies on their high-profile investigations into one of the largest retail collapses in the United Kingdom.
He also has acted on a number of disputes on behalf of energy sector clients, most notably the successful defense of Texas Keystone (U.S. oil and gas company) against Excalibur Ventures' high-profile $1.6+ billion claim for an interest in petroleum fields in Iraqi Kurdistan, for which Jones Day received numerous awards. Daniel also advised on the groundbreaking follow-on litigation against Excalibur's third-party litigation funders and has written and spoken extensively on issues surrounding third-party funding.
Daniel's other recent experience includes: advising on high-profile insolvency proceedings, including across the manufacturing, aviation, and retail sectors; representing a global bank in connection with investigations brought by regulatory and enforcement agencies, including the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), Serious Fraud Office (SFO), and Department of Justice (DOJ) in relation to forex; advising a global bank in relation to Office of Fair Trading (OFT) and related proceedings; and acting for an international pharmaceutical company in connection with a multijurisdictional contractual dispute.
