Brandy Ranjan has more than a decade of experience defending companies in some of their most significant product liability and commercial lawsuits, including contract and construction disputes, consumer class actions involving privacy and marketing claims, and mass tort actions. She has experience in multidistrict litigation and has worked with experts across a broad range of fields.
Brandy has been a part of several trial teams, including one that obtained a multimillion dollar judgment for United States Steel after a three-week federal jury trial by winning a directed verdict on plaintiff's breach of contract claims and prevailing on a counterclaim. She was a part of multiple trial teams that defended a series of multibillion dollar actions involving public nuisance claims.
Brandy has successfully resolved several consumer class actions by prevailing at the motion to dismiss stage, defeating class certification, or negotiating a favorable class wide settlement. She has represented clients such as Nationwide Realty Investors in several construction cases, including ones alleging construction and design defects, delay and disruption, and breach of contract.
Brandy leads the Columbus Office's women's affinity group, and she has an active pro bono practice. She was lead counsel in a federal habeas case that resulted in the client's life sentence being vacated after he served 18 years in prison based on a wrongful conviction. She also represents individuals seeking asylum in the United States.
Brandy has a degree in computer science and previously worked as a software engineer for a Fortune 100 technology company. She has written and presented on emerging technology issues, including blockchain technology, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and data privacy.
