Patrick Haney is a litigation and trial lawyer who represents companies in their most challenging disputes, including as lead counsel. Patrick handles complex disputes in federal and state courts across the country and has successfully litigated a range of complex disputes, including highly technical trade secret, product liability, False Claims Act (FCA), and mass tort cases. He has significant experience litigating class actions and multidistrict litigations. A former U.S. Navy pilot, Patrick also has in-depth experience in aviation and defense-related cases.
Patrick has served as litigation and trial counsel for numerous Fortune 500 clients, including IBM, R.J. Reynolds, Boeing, Raytheon, and Accenture. Some of his recent representations include serving as lead counsel for IBM in a complex commercial dispute in the Eastern District of Virginia, personally arguing (and defeating) TRO and Preliminary Injunction motion; serving as lead counsel for R.J. Reynolds in pending matters in California and Massachusetts; and serving as lead counsel in a confidential prelitigation contractual dispute. Prior to joining Jones Day in 2022, Patrick represented a leading aerospace manufacturer in a series of investigations and class actions arising out of the grounding of the 737 MAX airplane; defended an energy company in cases brought by direct competitors alleging trade secrets misappropriation in the gas turbine industry; and served as litigation and trial counsel to a biotechnology company in multidistrict litigation involving tens of thousands of class action and individual lawsuits in state and federal courts across the nation.
