Hong-Jun Ha focuses his practice on patent and trade secret litigation in U.S. district courts and the United States International Trade Commission (ITC). With a background in electrical engineering, he has an in-depth understanding of semiconductors, electronics, and telecommunications technology. He has worked as both outside and in-house counsel, which allows him to understand clients' business goals, engineering development processes, and products in support of patent litigation, transaction, and prosecution matters.

Hong-Jun has experience in a broad range of technologies, including chip architecture, electric circuits, semiconductor structures, semiconductor manufacturing and packaging processes, memory devices, micro-processors, image sensors, batteries and battery management systems, structures of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) and quantum dot displays, automotive radar and light detection and ranging (LiDAR) sensors, machine learning, and software for self-driving such as perception and planning algorithms.

Hong-Jun works on patent enforcement actions before U.S. district courts and the ITC and also advises clients on transactional IP issues related to joint development, joint venture, strategic partnership, patent acquisition and licensing, and mergers and acquisitions.

Prior to joining Jones Day, Hong-Jun worked in the Silicon Valley office of an international law firm where he advised clients in the electronics, semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), and automotive industries on patent litigation and prosecution matters. In addition, he worked at a global electronics and semiconductor company and at a self-driving technology company as in-house counsel.
