Gerjanne te Winkel has more than 35 years of experience in civil litigation and arbitration. Gerjanne has been at the forefront of numerous high-profile cases, representing clients in landmark proceedings before the Enterprise Division of the Amsterdam Court of Appeals, including ABN AMRO, Getronics, Versatel, Delta Lloyd, Cryo Save, Amtrada, and the compensation proceedings following the expropriation of SNS Reaal. Additionally, she served as lead counsel in international commercial arbitrations, overseeing significant cases adjudicated by the Netherlands Arbitration Institute (NAI) and the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), notably involving claims under guarantees within takeover disputes.
Gerjanne has in-depth experience across various domains, including class actions, the extensive scope of climate-related EU and national litigation, and the growing risks associated with greenwashing. Gerjanne advises multinational corporations on the dynamic trends and risks in climate change litigation in the Netherlands. This includes thorough risk assessments of companies' exposure to climate-related litigation, analysis of the jurisdictional considerations of Dutch courts in such proceedings, and identification of relevant discovery risks that companies may face. Currently, she is acting as the lead litigator in a class action against a pharmaceutical company.
As part of the Firm's multidisciplinary team tasked with anticipating and responding to the new, broader climate change-related challenges facing multinational companies, she represents major oil, chemical, and other heavy industry companies, as well as banks and other financial institutions, in navigating the new complexities of the evolving legal landscape.
Gerjanne regularly publishes and lectures on civil law and corporate governance topics. She is frequently invited to speak at professional conferences on ESG (environmental, social, and governance) matters.
