Theresa C.Martin

Theresa Coughlin Martin has represented clients across a broad range of complex matters including antitrust litigation, commercial arbitration, and contractual disputes. She has extensive experience with class action lawsuits, multidistrict litigation, and state attorney general investigations and has worked with a wide variety of clients including those in the automotive, aerospace, and pharmaceutical industries.

Theresa has represented multinational companies under investigation by the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) and international competition authorities related to allegations of bid-rigging, price-fixing, and market allocation and has continued her representation in related civil litigation. She also has experience defending companies in investigations and lawsuits brought by state attorneys general. Theresa has defended clients in DOJ challenges to proposed acquisitions. She defended Electrolux Corporation at trial regarding the DOJ's challenge to the proposed acquisition of General Electric's appliance business.

Theresa also was part of a team that successfully settled a private arbitration before the International Chamber of Commerce on behalf of a global engineering and aerospace company.

Theresa counsels clients on electronic discovery strategy and legal requirements including litigation holds, cost considerations, spoliation, social media, and predictive coding. She also provides related CLE programs to colleagues, both internally and externally.

Theresa is a member of the Washington Office's Recruiting Committee. She is also committed to pro bono service and currently serves as a member of D.C.'s Children's Law Center's advisory board. Most recently, Theresa obtained a favorable result for a client in a contested adoption matter in D.C. Superior Court after a full evidentiary hearing.
