Tim Heverin is an experienced trial lawyer who has represented clients in high-value patent and trade secret disputes, often involving international actors, activity, and witnesses. He has appeared before district courts across the country, the Federal Circuit, the International Trade Commission (ITC), and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).

For more than 25 years, Tim has litigated life science and technology patent disputes. He has represented clients in matters involving pharmaceutical and biologic products (e.g., Humira®, Prezista®, Hytrin®, Tricor®, Istodax®, and Kuvan®), foundational gene-editing technologies (CRISPR), medical devices (e.g., spinal implants, immunoassays, and stent technologies), chemical processing systems and semiconductor design, fabrication, and microarchitecture.

Tim previously served as the hiring partner for Jones Day's Chicago Office as well as for the firmwide Intellectual Property Practice. Prior to attending law school, Tim worked in the U.S. Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program as a nuclear plant engineer at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory.

  • Abbott prevails in patent infringement action against SandozJones Day represented Abbott Laboratories ("Abbott") in a patent infringement action brought under the Hatch-Waxman Act in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware against Sandoz, Inc.
  • Freescale and Interphase defend against patent infringement allegations over semiconductor technologyJones Day defended Freescale Semiconductor, Inc. and Interphase Corporation against allegations of infringing eight patents relating to various aspects of semiconductor technology.
