Drawing on his broad experience from prior government service as a district court judge, Simon Yu advises clients on litigation issues and on business resolutions. Simon has counseled clients on numerous high-tech patent litigations and complex multinational litigations involving white collar crime, trade secret protection, and construction disputes. His recent representation in a nationwide food fraud scandal earned him recognition as one of the few leading lawyers in the field of large-scale risk management. In addition to litigation, Simon advises clients on a wide range of competition issues.
Simon has significant experience representing and advising clients in connection with patent disputes related to semiconductor processes, the optical industry, and other strategic actions involving technology and intellectual property rights. As high-tech clients continually face challenges to trade secret protection, Simon also counsels clients in how to protect their intangible assets as a whole.
Prior to joining Jones Day, Simon served as a district court judge for 10 years. During his term in the criminal, civil, and IP tribunal, he was twice awarded for excellent trial performance. In 2005, Simon was sponsored by the Judicial Yuan of R.O.C. for an advanced law degree at New York University and also studied international banking at the university's Stern School of Business.
Simon has served as a lecturer on civil law topics at the National Chengchi University School of Law and is a member of American Chamber of Commerce in Taipei. He is fluent in Mandarin, English, and Taiwanese.
