Adept at mastering complex technologies, Albert Liou has more than 15 years of experience in patent litigation, trade secret litigation, and intellectual property transactions and licensing. He has litigated cases at every stage, including trial and appeal. He also has represented clients in inter partes review proceedings before the U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). He has served clients in the computer software, semiconductor, fintech, automotive, and petrochemical industries. Albert is a registered patent attorney with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and assists clients in managing their patent portfolios.
In Albert's intellectual property transactions practice, he assists clients in navigating complex acquisitions, divestitures, and investment transactions involving intellectual property. He also counsels clients regarding IP licensing issues, including open source software licensing and compliance.
Albert previously served as a volunteer prosecutor for the City of Houston Municipal Courts, where he tried 12 cases to verdict. He chairs Jones Day's Pathways to Law Program, which provides volunteer legal instruction to middle school students at Pilgrim Academy, a 98% economically disadvantaged school in Southwest Houston. He is a member of the Asian American Bar Association of Houston, where he was a past president. He is also active in The Honorable Nancy F. Atlas American IP Inn of Court, as well as the Houston Intellectual Property Law Association.
